Frequently asked questions
What goes in an accessory rack or cart?
Accessory storage holds everything that doesn't fit on a dedicated rack: foam rollers, resistance bands, yoga mats, jump ropes, gym balls, battle ropes, bands, and more. Carts have wheels and can move between stations or be stored when not in use. Wall-mounted racks are great for permanent storage at the perimeter of the gym.
Rack vs. cart — which do I need?
Racks (freestanding or wall-mounted) are for permanent storage of equipment that stays in one place. Carts (wheeled) work best for gyms that run classes or sessions — staff can roll the cart into a studio, set up gear, and roll it back out. For a home gym, a stationary rack is usually enough.
How much does a loaded accessory cart weigh?
A fully loaded commercial accessory cart (foam rollers, resistance bands, mats) can easily weigh 150–300 lb. Check the cart's weight capacity and wheel rating — cheap casters bind or fail under load. Commercial carts use locking swivel casters that support 500+ lb total.
Can I build my own storage solution?
Yes, and many home gym owners do — wire shelving, repurposed lockers, or custom-built racks work fine for accessory storage. The reason most facilities buy dedicated accessory racks is speed, durability, and professional appearance. If you're outfitting a business, dedicated racks pay for themselves in member perception and gear lifespan.
What size cart fits a typical class or training session?
For group classes (yoga, bootcamp, functional training), a 3-shelf cart approximately 4 ft long × 2 ft wide holds enough gear for 8–12 participants. Larger classes or more equipment-heavy sessions need 5-shelf or multiple carts. Plan around the largest class you'll run.
