Ice Baths & Cold Plunge Tubs

Cold plunge tubs and ice baths for daily cold exposure and post-workout recovery. Choose barrel plunges, inflatable tubs, insulated cuboid tubs and chiller-integrated systems for homes, gyms and wellness spaces.

Decide between ice and a chiller first: a chiller holds a set temperature every day without bagged ice. Then check tub size against your height. See water chillers and cold plunge accessories.

Frequently asked questions

Stock tank, inflatable, or dedicated plunge tub — what's the difference?

Stock tanks (galvanized steel feeding troughs) are the DIY budget option — durable, cheap, but no insulation or integrated chiller. Inflatable plunges (like Ice Barrel-style) are portable and cheap but less comfortable and lose temperature fast. Dedicated plunge tubs have insulation, integrated chillers, filtration, and ergonomic shapes — the premium option that performs best long-term.

What size tub do I need?

For one user: inside dimensions of roughly 40 × 28 × 28 inches — enough for shoulders-under immersion with knees slightly bent. Larger tubs (60 × 30 inches) accommodate taller users or lying-down-style plunges. Bigger isn't always better — larger water volumes take longer to chill and cost more to run.

Does the tub material matter?

Yes. Acrylic or fiberglass tubs are the most common — durable, smooth, easy to clean, and look premium. Stainless steel tubs are ultra-durable and popular for commercial settings. Wood-wrapped plunges offer aesthetic appeal with interior liners. Galvanized steel (stock tank) is budget-friendly but scratches and shows water stains over time.

Do plunge tubs have insulation?

Dedicated plunge tubs do — typically 2–4 inches of foam insulation between the inner shell and outer cabinet. This is critical for efficient chiller operation; uninsulated tanks force the chiller to run constantly to fight ambient heat gain. Insulated tubs can maintain temperature with the chiller cycling only 30–40% of the time.

Can a plunge tub go outdoors?

Yes, most are rated for outdoor use. Consider: freeze protection (keep the chiller running in winter or drain completely — chillers can freeze and crack), UV exposure (covered plunges last longer), and drainage (locate where splashed water drains away cleanly). Covered patios or dedicated enclosures are ideal.
